We spent some time in London and Liverpool last summer – as always I’m on the lookout for all things municipal.
I’m pondering what must have happened to necessitate this sign.We have swales, they have “ha ha”. It’s essentially a moat. We’ve been talking about allowing dogs at outdoor dining, but this is next level. Also, it got pretty ugly for the person in the blue shirt.Grit: this puts our repurposed trash barrel/sand dispensers to shame.Public art!I would not want to have to staff this phone line in the U.S.Heart safe efforts are also next level. As always, our friends at public works are on the job after everyone else goes home.
How about you? Do you have a favorite or unusual municipal picture or story?
Let’s practice – watching tor examples of local government at work.

I couldn’t find a picture of it, but I never forgot after seeing it mounted on a corner crosswalk light pole ( I think in San Juan). It was a yellow diamond caution sign that stated “No Mariachi Bands”.
Obviously, a Mariachi Band is a hazard on a street corner blocking the crosswalks. But wouldn’t that apply to every street corner? Why this particular street corner? Maybe there was a horrific accident at that specific corner. A German Oompah band on the corner must be okay.
By the way, I also saw a ‘No Mariachi Bands’ sign in a hotel lobby. I think that was in Houston.
Personally, I feel the same way about Mariachi Bands that I do meteors — it’s awesome to see one, until you realize it is coming towards you.
